Peer Review Process

The Journal of Multidisciplinary Engineering Research (JMER) operates a structured peer-review process designed to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and scholarly integrity of manuscripts submitted for publication.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All manuscripts received by JMER are first examined by the Editorial Office to determine whether they:

  • Fall within the scope of the journal.
  • Meet the basic manuscript and formatting requirements.
  • Present a clear academic, scientific, or technical contribution.
  • Comply with the journal's ethical and publication requirements.

Manuscripts that do not meet the basic requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or declined before peer review.

2. Plagiarism and Similarity Screening

Submitted manuscripts may be subjected to plagiarism and similarity screening before or during the peer-review process.

Where substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct are identified, the manuscript may be rejected or referred for further investigation.

3. Reviewer Selection

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are sent to qualified reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area.

Reviewers are selected based on their:

  • Relevant academic or professional expertise.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Research experience.
  • Ability to provide an objective and constructive assessment.

4. Peer Review

JMER normally uses a double-anonymous peer-review process, where the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential during the review process where practicable.

Reviewers assess manuscripts based on criteria including:

  • Originality and novelty.
  • Technical and scientific quality.
  • Clarity of objectives and methodology.
  • Validity of analysis and results.
  • Relevance to the journal's scope.
  • Quality of references.
  • Clarity of presentation.
  • Overall contribution to engineering, technology, and related fields.

5. Reviewer Recommendations

Reviewers may recommend that a manuscript be:

  • Accepted
  • Accepted subject to minor revisions
  • Revised and resubmitted for further consideration
  • Rejected

Reviewer recommendations assist the Editorial Board but do not automatically determine the final editorial decision.

6. Editorial Decision

The final publication decision is made by the appropriate editor based on the reviewers' assessments, the quality of the manuscript, and the journal's editorial standards.

Where reviewers provide conflicting recommendations, the editor may seek an additional review or make an independent editorial decision.

7. Revision of Manuscripts

Where revisions are requested, authors must respond to the reviewers' comments and submit a revised manuscript within the period specified by the Editorial Office.

Authors may be required to provide a response explaining how each significant reviewer comment has been addressed.

8. Confidentiality

Manuscripts submitted to JMER are treated as confidential documents.

Reviewers and editors must not disclose, reproduce, distribute, or use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for personal or professional advantage.

9. Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest that could affect their objectivity.

A reviewer may be replaced where a significant conflict exists.

10. Appeals

Authors who believe that an editorial decision was made as a result of a significant error or misunderstanding may submit an appeal to the Editorial Office.

Appeals should provide clear and substantive reasons for reconsideration. The Editorial Board will consider appeals in accordance with the journal's editorial procedures.

11. Post-Publication Review

JMER remains committed to maintaining the integrity of its published scholarly record. Concerns relating to published articles may be investigated, and appropriate action may include correction, clarification, or retraction where warranted.
