Generative AI Policy

The Journal of Multidisciplinary Engineering Research (JMER) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI technologies are increasingly being used in academic research, writing, data analysis, programming, and other scholarly activities. The journal supports responsible and transparent use of these technologies while maintaining the principles of research integrity, originality, accountability, and transparency.

1. Responsible Use of Generative AI

Authors may use generative AI tools to assist with appropriate aspects of manuscript preparation, such as:

  • Language and grammar improvement.
  • Spelling and formatting assistance.
  • Improving clarity and readability.
  • Generating ideas or assisting with preliminary literature exploration.
  • Programming or coding assistance.
  • Supporting data-analysis workflows where appropriately verified.

Authors remain fully responsible for the content and integrity of their submitted manuscripts.

2. AI Cannot Be an Author

Generative AI tools, including AI chatbots and large language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JMER.

Authorship requires accountability for the research and manuscript, which can only be accepted by human authors.

3. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors should disclose significant use of generative AI in preparing their manuscript where such use materially contributed to the work.

The disclosure should identify:

  • The AI tool or system used.
  • The purpose for which it was used.
  • The general nature of the assistance provided.

Routine spelling, grammar, or formatting assistance may not require detailed disclosure unless otherwise requested by the Editorial Board.

4. Author Responsibility

Authors remain responsible for:

  • The accuracy of all information contained in the manuscript.
  • Verification of AI-generated statements.
  • The originality of the manuscript.
  • Proper citation of sources.
  • The integrity of research data and results.
  • Ensuring that AI-generated material does not contain plagiarism or inappropriate reproduction of copyrighted material.

AI-generated content should not be accepted without appropriate human verification.

5. Fabricated Information and References

Authors must not rely on AI-generated information without verification.

Particular care must be taken with:

  • Factual claims.
  • Technical information.
  • Mathematical expressions.
  • Research findings.
  • Citations and references.
  • Digital object identifiers (DOIs).
  • Bibliographic information.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references cited in their manuscripts actually exist and accurately support the claims for which they are cited.

6. Confidentiality

Authors, reviewers, and editors must not upload confidential, unpublished, proprietary, or personally identifiable information from manuscripts under consideration to public or third-party AI systems where doing so could compromise confidentiality or intellectual property.

Reviewers must not use generative AI to evaluate or process confidential manuscripts unless explicitly permitted by the journal.

7. AI-Generated Images and Content

Where AI tools are used to generate or substantially modify images, diagrams, illustrations, or other research content, authors should disclose such use where it is relevant to the integrity or interpretation of the work.

AI-generated images must not be presented as genuine experimental results, photographs, scientific evidence, or research data.

8. Peer Review and Editorial Decisions

JMER editors and reviewers must maintain confidentiality, independence, and professional judgment when evaluating manuscripts.

AI tools must not replace the independent scholarly judgment of editors or peer reviewers.

9. Misuse of Artificial Intelligence

The following practices are unacceptable:

  • Submitting AI-generated material as original research without appropriate verification.
  • Fabricating references or research findings using AI.
  • Using AI to manipulate or fabricate research data.
  • Concealing substantial AI-generated contributions where disclosure is required.
  • Uploading confidential manuscript material to AI systems in a manner that compromises confidentiality.
  • Using AI to impersonate authors, reviewers, or editors.

Where misuse is identified, JMER may take appropriate editorial action, including requesting clarification, rejecting the manuscript, or taking post-publication action where necessary.

10. Policy Updates

JMER recognizes that AI technologies and scholarly publishing practices are continually evolving. The journal may periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in responsible AI use, research integrity, copyright, privacy, and academic publishing standards.
